How is the pumpkin seed oil produced?
Grinding - The right crushing is what counts
The grinding of the pumpkin seeds takes place in traditional stone grinders or in modern cutting mills. In the process, the pumpkin seeds are evenly and very gently crushed to have the right consistency for the subsequent roasting and pressing process.
Kneading - The "salt in the soup''
In order to separate the valuable ingredients from the other components as well as possible, the ground pumpkin seeds are mixed with water and a pinch of salt in the kneading machine. The careful kneading is an important oprocess in the production chain.
Roasting - valuable ingredients are retained
The kneading mass is filles into the roasting pan, which is heated slowly and gently to let the added water evaporate again. Here lies the secret of the unique smell and taste of pumpkin seed oil. The many valuable ingredients of the pumpkin seeds are preserved almost in their entirety. For 1 liter of oil you need 2.5 kg of seeds, which is an average of 35 pumpkins.
Pressing - tradition with adapted technology
In the past the pumpkin seed oil was beat out by hand - today only the job title of the oil beater remains. Today, the pumpkin seed oil is gently pressed without heat. The oil obtained is purified solely by settling. According to the strict regulations of the German food book it may not contain any other ingredients.
